Some thoughts from the remarkable employees at Wesley Village Campus.
Receptionist, Wesley Village Campus
Employee since 1987
In my role, I’m often the first person people meet on campus or by phone, whether they’re prospective residents, family members or visitors. I know a move to senior living can be a difficult decision, whether you’re looking for yourself or are helping a loved one, so I try to treat people the way I’d want to be treated. I remember helping my elderly parents, and I know that makes a difference. Working here is a family atmosphere – it’s like home, and we care for one another. I find that I get attached to residents and family members. Wesley Village has a lot to offer its staff – the Homes is a fair employer. I think they’re very good to us.
Dietary Worker, Wesley Village Campus
Employee since 2010
When I was looking for a job, I remembered how much I liked Wesley Village when my mother-in-law lived here. I really can say I like my work. When I go home, I can honestly always say “I had a great day.” I tell my daughters that when you find a job you love, stick with it. My role changes daily — sometimes I’m in the kitchen, sometimes I’m on the floors with the residents. I love interacting with them. I find a lot of joy throughout the day. People will say to me that working in long-term care must be so dreary and sad, but you have to look at the bright side of things: The best part of my job is walking into a resident’s room and seeing his or her face light up. It’s so much fun to hear their stories and what they have to say. I hear so often from residents that “my family did their research and this is the best place to be.” And I totally believe it.
