Dementia Care in an Adult Care Setting:
The SUN Unit on the Hilltop Campus

The SUN (Sensitivity, Understanding and Nurturing) Unit is designed specifically for seniors who are physically well but in the early to mid stages of dementia. SUN Unit care includes the following:

  • Air conditioner provided
  • All utilities excluding telephone
  • Cable television
  • Common snack areas
  • Complete draperies
  • Emergency call system
  • Housekeeping services
  • Individual heat control
  • Laundry services, including linen, bedding, and personal clothing
  • Recreational and social activities on and off the unit, specially geared toward residents with cognitive impairments
  • Routine maintenance
  • Secure unit
  • Smoke detectors/sprinkler system
  • Social worker/case management services
  • Staffed 24 hours per day by specially-trained personal care staff who provide assistance with medication management and activities of daily living
  • Supervision and direction
  • Three meals served daily
