Giving to United Methodist Homes

At United Methodist Homes, we believe it’s important to take a holistic view of successful aging. Those most likely to age well have good physical and psychological health as well as a social support network. Successful aging is not just the absence of chronic illness, but the presence of life satisfaction.

The United Methodist Homes Foundation was created as the fundraising component of United Methodist Homes. Our mission is to enrich the lives of those we serve by providing critical resources to meet resident and campus needs, ensure continuity of care, and deliver innovative, enhanced programming for vibrant and active senior living. Donations to the Foundation directly support all campuses in continually improving the quality of life and ensuring successful aging.

How You Can Help

We can’t do this important work without you. Your donations in any shape or size help United Methodist Homes deliver the highest standards of care, pursue the most innovative and promising programming to enhance the lives of our residents, and provide a nurturing, compassionate environment for our staff and the people we serve.

Planned Giving

By naming United Methodist Homes in your will, trust or retirement plan, or by establishing a gift that provides you income for life, you are guaranteeing our residents and staff have resources for the continually improved quality of life they deserve. In doing so, you will also be recognized and honored as a member of the UMH Legacy Society.

Gifts in a Will or Trust

Making a legacy gift in your will or trust is one of the easiest and most popular ways to make a lasting impact at United Methodist Homes. Once you have provided for your loved ones, we hope you might consider making our mission part of your life story in a way that is both flexible and at no cost to you.

Gifts by Beneficiary Designation

It is easy to put your bank accounts, retirement funds, savings bonds, and more to use in advancing the care and lifestyle of our residents and empowering our staff. By naming United Methodist Homes as a beneficiary of these assets, you can power our mission for years to come and establish your personal legacy – and it costs you nothing now.

Gifts that Pay You Income

A Charitable Gift Annuity offers a secure, fixed payment stream to yourself and/or your loved ones throughout your lifetime. By making a gift of cash or appreciated securities worth $10,000 or more, you and/or your beneficiary will receive fixed payments for life depending on your age. If you make gift of appreciated stock, you receive capital gains tax savings; your gift will also pass to United Methodist Homes outside the estate process, and you are immediately eligible for charitable income tax deduction.

Donor-Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is like a philanthropic savings account that allows you to combine tax benefits with the flexibility to recommend the amount and frequency of gifts to your favorite charities like UMH.

Major Gift & Memorial Funds

Major Gift and Memorial Funds allow us to grow, renovate, and improve indoor or outdoor spaces, establish new initiatives, and honor the lives of loved ones in a way most meaningful to any individual or family. Many families choose to create a lasting legacy by naming or renovating a space in honor of a loved one, investing in new property, technology, or equipment, or establishing a new program or event to better the lives and experiences of future residents and staff.

Resident Assistance Program

The Resident Assistance Program was created to ensure that residents in our care will never be asked to leave their home due to lack of finances. The generosity of donors enables our Foundation to quietly distribute funds, filling the gap for those Assisted Living and Personal Care residents that have exhausted their means. This critical benevolence program is one of the greatest needs at United Methodist Homes. Residents receiving assistance may not know the names of the donors, but are ever grateful for the support that ensures their continuity of high-quality care

The UMH Fund

Unrestricted funds that can be utilized right away enable staff and the Foundation to discern the best possible use of funds focused on program areas or campuses with the greatest need at any given time. This could be improving exterior or interior spaces, purchasing care-related equipment, funding a specific program or providing additional support to residents in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these funds proved invaluable to be able to adapt and provide resources to protect and support our residents during a challenging, difficult time.

Honoring Our Donors

UMH Legacy Society

The United Methodist Homes Legacy Society recognizes individuals who remember UMH in their estate plans through a will, trust, retirement plan, life-income gift, or other planned gift. If you have already included a bequest for United Methodist Homes in your estate plan, please contact us to let us know. We would like to honor you during your lifetime and ensure your gift is utilized as it is intended.

Through their generosity and thoughtful foresight, UMH Legacy Society members are celebrated for supporting the UMH mission. Those who are honored as part of this society already have been transformative in guaranteeing our residents and staff have resources for the continually improved quality of life they deserve.

UMH Pillar Society

The United Methodist Homes Pillar Society is a Foundation initiative to encourage a sense of community among our major donors. The Society recognizes those who have contributed $10,000 or more during their lifetime to advance UMH’s mission and vision.

We are deeply grateful to these special friends who empower UMH to be bold, challenge us to strive for innovation in our programs, and enable the very best care, support, and experience for our residents and staff. Their visionary philanthropy and partnership enable us to continue improving our service and amenities while maintaining a warm and welcoming environment and ensuring the highest quality of care possible.

You care. We care. Let's talk.
